<< Moondance Jam 2009 >> Moondance Jam was great!!! Had a wonderful time and would do it all over again, even though the weather was less than ideal and at times, downright freezing. There were times when we could see our own breath, it was so cold!!! On Wednesday, I spent the day getting ready to go. I have never gone camping before and wasn't sure what I needed, so it was a bit of a guessing game for me. thursday morning, I got up early, got all our stuff together. Dave was a nervous ball of energy and at one point I had to just tell him to calm down, that we had NO real schedule. All we had to do was meet up with the rest of the group at 11:30 in Hackensack. Yeah, we got there an hour early, went to Dave's office there and got some stuff like water bottles. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. They were running late, of course, so we had another hour to kill. So, we had lunch in town and finally they showed up. So, two hours after getting there, we were back on the road again. Made it to Moondance. Set up camp. We had four campers together so we put them in a ring with a common gathering area in front, where we ate together, drank together, and had bonfires. It really was a good time. The first day was so damn cold and windy, we set up a huge tarp between two campers to block the wind. That was much much better. We went down to watch the music later in the day. It was Sheryl Crow and Journey playing that night. We got ourselves right up front and we were getting so squished that I finally said "enough" and took off, leaving the group behind. I went and stood in the back for a while. And walked around a bit. I did not miss a single note of the music, but was much happier not being in that crowd. Dave apparently was worried about me and tried to find me, but with thousands of people there, it's hard to find someone you know unless you have a pre-set place. Anyway, after Sheryl Crow was done, I found the rest of the group since I knew they would be heading for the beer tent. And they did. I told them that I didn't feel comfortable in that huge mess of people and Dave decided to stick with me for Journey, towards the back. He was fine with that. The rest of them did whatever they wanted. I was fine being alone, but Dave did not want me to be alone in that crowd of drinking people. So, we hung together to watch the band. They were really good. It was odd to see another lead singer up there besides Steve Perry. But the man did a great job and sounded just like Steve Perry. So it was good. After that, we went back to the campsite. You need to take a lot of different turns in the path to find the right area and we got lost twice. No lights and tons of campers that all look the same after a while. Made it back. I think we went right to bed after that since it was so late and it had been a LONG day. The next morning, Nikki and Travis cooked breakfast for us all and we ate like kings!!! It was another cold and rainy day and Dave had an appointment, so he left and I just hung around the camper. Everyone pretty much kept to themselves that morning. I had brought my DVD player along so I watched Dead Like Me. And took a nap. Dave came back and he laid down for a while. We wanted to go see some more music so we went back down to the site. It was so cold and the sweatshirt and heavy jacket I had on were just not cutting it, so Dave bought me a Moondance sweatshirt that kept me nice and warm. We watched a Led Zeppelin tribute band which I really loved and Dave really liked, too. We then headed back to the camper for a while until another good band started up. We had bonfires everynight. We had loaded up, what we thought was more than enough wood to last us the whole four days but it turned out that we could have used more. We ran out the last night. Dave and I burnt off the last of the wood before everyone else came back to the camp site. We were not interested in the lineup of musicians, so we hung out there and kept warm by the fire and went to bed early. After everyone else came back, they saw there was no more wood so they burnt up some computer manuals that one of the guys had brought with for some reason. So, paper all over the place. It was a mess. We got blasted out of bed at 3:00 a.m. by our "neighbors" who brought huge speakers with them and they were blaring Pink Floyd. They have a rule about no generators after 2:30 a.m. due to the noise, but anyone can certainly play their music as loud as they want. After the Pink Floyd CD was over, one of the guys grabbed a microphone and was trying to rap or something in it. I was finally able to get back to sleep then because, while he really sucked, at least he was not as loud as the music. Sunday, woke up late, around 7:30. Got up. Got the camp torn down and the camper and car all loaded up and headed home. Got home around 12:00, took a shower and put stuff away. Got laundry started and headed over to Dave's, where Nikki and Travis were, dropping off some stuff for us. Took a nap there. Dave woke me up to feed me. Then I went home and got stuff done. It was a pretty quiet evening after all that activity at the jam. Today, it's back to work and by the looks of things, Bossy Man didn't allow anyone else to do my work for me. Sigh I have a LONG day ahead of me. |
